Drizzle
Michael Gilliland
The first piece I ever composed in an academic setting. Drizzle is the first of four tracks on my debut album entitled “Weather Or Not.” Now available on all major streaming platforms!
10 Preludes, Op. 23, No. 6 in Eb Major, Andante
Sergei Rachmaninoff
Composed in 1901 and 1903. Together with the prelude in C# minor, Op. 3 No. 2, and the 13 Preludes, Op. 32, this set is part of a full suite of 24 preludes in all the major and minor keys.
Piano Sonata No. 12 in F Major, K 332
I. Allegro
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Published in 1784, Mozart was 28 years old when he composed this piano sonata. He was inspired to compose this particular work after he visited Munich in 1781.
Piano Sonata No. 12 in F Major, K 332
III. Allegro Assai
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The final movement of this piano sonata. Fluttery and virtuosic especially in the right hand figures.
Man I Love
George Gershwin
This piece is the first jazz standard I ever learned. I was a junior in college when I received my first Gershwin piano book and fell in love with his compositions ever since.
10 Preludes, Op. 23, No. 5 in G Minor, Alla Marcia
Sergei Rachmaninoff
Composed in 1901 and 1903. Together with the prelude in C# minor, Op. 3 No. 2, and the 13 Preludes, Op. 32, this set is part of a full suite of 24 preludes in all the major and minor keys.
Excursions, Op. 20
III. Allegretto
Samuel Barber
This selection is a part of a four movement work by West Chester PA native Samuel Barber. The excerpt that I am playing displays 7 over 8 polyrhythms; something very complex yet disguised as tranquil dining music.
Dança Do Índio Branco (de “Ciclo Brasilierio”)
Heitor Villa-Lobos
I chose this piece as my encore for my senior recital at Penn State. I will never forget the moment I struck that final chord on stage and reflected on all the hard work I’ve done over the past 4 years.
